More driftwood!

Sunday, December 6, 2009 Posted by Carol

Here’s another driftwood project I’ve been working on recently: a windchime for my sister-in-law’s birthday:

windchime

This is made out of a piece of driftwood onto which I pyro’d Lizzie’s name and a few butterflies.  My OH used to be a plumber and we had some leftover copper pipe lying in the garden, so I cut it into different lengths, drilled holes at the top and polished them up (steel wool would have been best for this, but I didn’t have any so had to use a scourer which eventually did the trick but took MUCH longer!!).  The pipes are attached to the wood with fishing line which is strong but flexible, so gives good movement.  The copper pipes worked brilliantly and it sounded FANTASTIC!

Driftwood Fairy

Sunday, December 6, 2009 Posted by Carol

I’ve been taking part in a Secret Santa through a crafts forum and the recipient of my gift loves fairies so it seemed sensible to make her a gift that was fairy-themed!

My first idea was to take a bit of driftwood and pyro a fairy onto it, then drill a hole to hold a tealight at the top.  Bear in mind this was my very first attempt at pyro (and I hadn’t made the hole for the tealight when I took this, so it’s just sitting awkwardly on top!)

I was reasonably pleased with it but felt it lacked a little something … so I went ahead and made something else instead (more about that in a later post!).  Anyway, my mum suggested that it might be nice with some air plants in the top instead of a tealight holder and I agree!  So, will be getting some air plants at some point to see how that looks.

I’m very sorry to report that two of my earliest Spirit Jumps, Sammie and Jesica, have sadly passed away.

Please, please consider joining Spirit Jump and help to lift the spirits of those who are fighting cancer – it only takes a simple card!

Long overdue update

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 Posted by Carol

I’ve just realised how long it is since I updated this blog properly – eek!

It’s all been a bit hectic here lately which is why I haven’t had much time to create new paintings.  I have however got my hands on a new camera (well, new to me - it’s a Canon 300D Digital SLR), so I was out at Pittencrieff Park here in Dunfermline today taking some pictures:

Am having a major clear-out at the moment by doing an “Ebay 10 A Day” challenge (to list 10 items for sale every day) which is going well!  Hopefully the clear-out will allow me to clear a space on my oh-so-cluttered craft table so I can get some more encaustic work done soon!!

Spirit Jump Angel

Thursday, July 9, 2009 Posted by Carol

I’ve just finished a Spirit Jump for a very brave lady who’s fighting a long battle against Ovarian Cancer.  I’m told Jesica collects angels, so I’ve painted this tile for her:

Hope it helps to lift her spirits!

UPDATE:
I’m also sending this clock to a little girl called Grace, who’s thankfully in remission but is still undergoing nasty cancer treatments.

People of Auchtermuchty: Where were you??

Saturday, June 13, 2009 Posted by Carol

Just back from the ATC Fundraiser at Auchtermuchty.  The organiser, Linda, had done a fantastic job of getting together a wide range of crafts and products … but unfortunately there weren’t very many visitors there to appreciate her hard work!!   Still, I enjoyed talking to the other crafters and customers and hope to exhibit at their next fundraiser later in the year (in a more central location!).

More clocks

Friday, June 12, 2009 Posted by Carol

I’ve been busy clock-making – this time, using different paints for a brighter, bolder colour (rather than the stained glass effect).  All are felt-backed with a hook for wall hanging on the Quartz clock part.  I’ll be taking these with me to the craft fair at Auchtermuchty tomorrow.
